Enhanced Security

In reaction to security concerns at all large public venues, Sea World has now instituted a bag search upon entry into the park at tables set up in front of the turnstiles. This is pretty much standard at all theme parks now. To minimize any personal inconvenience to yourself and your group, make sure to leave all non-essential items and bags in the trunk of your vehicle. You may want to rent a locker to store things such as jackets and changes of clothing that you'll need later in the day as every time you re-enter the park, you must pass through the security check.

Annual Passes at a Glance

All of the parks have now gone to a "color" pass system. The Bronze card, previously known as the fun card, is an entry-level pass that sells for about the price of one day's admission. The Bronze pass does not include free parking, discounts, or any other passholder priveleges, and has a small number of blockout dates. It is a great way for a family on a budget to maximize their entertainment dollars. Going on a week-long trip to Disney World and want to spend more than one day at Sea World, but don't care about coming back throughout the year? Buy a Bronze pass and save some money on the multi-day ticket!

The Silver pass is the standard one year (or one season in San Antonio) with merchandise and food discounts, and in San Diego and Orlando, free parking is included (parking is an extra-cost add-on in Texas).

The Gold pass is a two-year Silver pass with no other differences. The cost is about 1-1/2 times the Silver pass price.

Finally, the Platinum pass is a one-year super pass that includes free preferred parking, a free guest admission ticket, reserved seating at all shows, front of the line priveleges at R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse (in San Diego), and a few other perks that I won't mention here in the interest of saving space.

Money-saving Strategy

Buy a Silver pass for one member of your family, and Bronze passes for everyone else. You can use the free parking (assuming you're in one car ...) and discount priveleges for everyone in your group. Make sure that the blockout dates on the Bronze pass aren't going to interfere with your travel plans.

About The SWIG

The Sea World Information Guide is an independent theme park guide authored by an individual. The purpose of this site is to disseminate information useful for planning and experiencing maximum enjoyment from trips to Sea World parks within the United States. This site is not condoned, sponsored, or maintained by or in any way a part of or associated with the Busch Entertainment Corporation, SeaWorld Inc., any other related corporate entity, or any employees thereof, and is not an official source of information for Sea World parks. To visit the official Sea World site, please click here.

The SWIG exists as a public service. It is not sponsored by any corporate entity. I pay all the site expenses out of my own pocket, and neither solicit nor accept advertising or donations. This means that the opinions expressed here are mine alone and are not colored by any financial contributors. From time to time, I have guests and readers who give their permisson to incorporate their commentary into the site. The opinions expressed by these readers are theirs and may or may not coincide with my or your personal beliefs.

This site has the greatest focus on Sea World of California. I cover the other two Sea World parks, but do not have the ability to visit them on a regular basis, which admittedly makes it hard to keep the content as fresh as I'd like! If you visit the other parks and have any information you'd like to share, please email me.

I note the date at the top of every page within the site as it is updated. Sea World has the right to change their prices and policies at any time with or without notice. I try to keep my site current, but I can't stay on top of every change. Please keep this in mind, and use the information on this site only as a general guideline for planning your trip.

What The SWIG is not

The Sea World Information Guide is not a news or rumors site, though I'm sure there are some that would hope to find one or both here. I may have the occasional news blurb or rumor appearing on the entry page, but the amount of time required to keep that kind of flow going far exceeds what one person can do, much less on a part-time schedule (I know from experience).

Also, based on some of the emails I get it seems I cannot say it enough, the Sea World Information Guide is NOT condoned, sponsored, or maintained by or in any way a part of or associated with the Busch Entertainment Corporation, SeaWorld Inc., any other related corporate entity, or any employees thereof, and is not an official source of information for Sea World parks (I know, it says that in the section above). Any email you send to The SWIG will NEVER EVER be seen or read by a Sea World employee!
